Finite fracture Mechanics at the micro-scale. Application to bending tests of micro cantilever beams

In the framework of Finite Fracture Mechanics theory, Coupled Criterion predicts crack onset based, totally or partially according to situation, on an energy condition. Due smallness specimens at micro-scale, this condition may become difficult be satisfied given very small volume structures, leading apparent strengthening. The aim work is analyze how answer brought by evolves when descending scales from cm-scale, µm-scale and even nm-scale. It based case studies comparisons with experiments found in literature. Obviously, still works micro-scale. However, due lack caused specimens, it general much sensitive toughness whereas little tensile strength, making sometimes identify latter parameter. parallel, difference between displacement force controlled loading modes increases a notch insensitivity appears.
